The 30th GAS reunion was held May 2 - 4 in Binghamton, N.Y.
Rehearsals for the event were held at Carpenters’ Hall, as usual, while the individual acts were rehearsed at the Legion in Port Credit, where our “sound man”, Ian Morrison, made sure that every voice sounded the best it could through the mixing board and loudspeakers.

On the left the sound team - looks like one trainee is getting her hands slapped: “Hands off my mixer!” On the right: the boss - Sound Master Ian.

Never Walk Alone
Ellie’s poem: My Tree
I have a tree of the people I’ve met
Each person on it I will never forget
We met when we were in our teens
Lost touch for a while, always in jeans
Ambassadors, Leaside, Signals and such
Drums, Horns, Concerts, it was a great rush
We spent the years doing our things
Dinners, trips, family, drum corps and sings
Don was a brother, Margaret a friend
A Godfather to Wyatt without any ends
We relished the closeness, relinquished the time
Loved the harmony and enjoyed the rhyme
We felt the joy in the friendships we shared
and knew that the persons knew that we cared
For donations and events that we hosted
To make a difference to DCAT of which we all boasted
No matter what! We knew Jimmy was feeling
The smile on his face was really revealing
When he sat on the chair in front of the hall
He mouthed the words and gave it his all
You knew he was happy, you knew he was sad
You knew he was pissed and knew he was glad
We really do miss him and the joy that he gave
You can hear his words “I did it ‘My Way’ right to my grave”

Starting with the BBQ:
Then we had to hurry up and wait for a rehearsal that never took place:
The following photos are from Ian:

“The Legends of Drum Corps VI Show”

Oshawa Civic Fields
Because of rain, the event was held indoors. We tried to rehearse on the field but the sound of several bands already practicing there drove us back up to refreshment area. (Apologies for the poor quality of the photos. My cell phone camera has become very slow and allows me and/or the subjects to move while the exposure is taking place! Kris)
Parky must have arrived by horse and forgot to remove his spurs! He and Ort drummed us on to the field. Here you can see them practicing - on a chair.
DCAT opened the show with the Canadian anthem, “On the Square”, “Hallelujah”, “Rainbow”, “William Tell” and “Never walk alone” (photo from Optimists Alumni):
Then came the five participating bands. First of them, the KW Northstar Summer Youth Band with players so junior that some were shorter than their drums.
The Preston Scout House Alumni were great as always.
The Optimist Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps were last up
And the evening finished with the massed bands playing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and many went back up to the refreshments:
20th Anniversary Gala Sept. 27 at Qssis Banquet Halls

The tables had been organized by Edna Kingsley.
Reception:
Shirley Hay, Pat Ison, Dianne Yaneff, and Edna Kingsley signed us up for the various lottery draws.
The many magnificent items for the silent auction.
Dave Cook had put together a fabulous selection of “DCAT through the ages” and ran it as a slide show during the first part of the evening. On the stage were also the door prizes in colourful bags.
Dolly had put our uniforms through the years on display.
Red-white-black = DCAT!
Sandy Hume had made the programs and Edna Allen had made all the fabulous centre pieces with flowers and music sheets from both Ted and Wyatt stuck into a drum - drum sticks and all!
Parky was an appreciated Master of Ceremonies.
Ort Beaumont welcomed everyone to the Gala.
The Gill family attended in force - above represented by the newest member in an appropriately red and black stroller! (Love your snazzy cap, baby!)

For “You’ll never walk alone” all current and former members of the chorus present joined to sing:

Photos taken at the Vaughan theatre:
We gathered, members, associate members, former members, friends and relatives, to our usual “Hall of Fame” Reveal and Christmas Party. Three strong women were inducted into the “Hall of Fame”:
The audience was all in favour of all the inductees and showed their appreciation:
A 50/50 draw plus a lottery for doorprizes, was ably handled by Edna Kingsley, Lois Nicholls and Sandy Hume-Bartholomew. Several items had also been brought for the silent auction and the table with donated toys, to be delivered to the Salvation Army by Linda Carscadden, was as fabulous as ever (photo by Sandy Hale):
And then we all went down to the restaurant/bar for the great buffet, organized the Social committee and provided by Ulle and her staff.
